Raising awareness of Autism and all of the other related neurodevelopmental problems – as well as the ways in which they overlap – is fundamental to our work. There are still so many people who have never heard of the Autism Spectrum – and among many who have, misperceptions persist. The correct, evidence-based information is fundamental to supporting children effectively.
We reach out to schools and public health centres in local rural and under-serviced communities in order to provide awareness and information about each unique Autism, and all of its associated difficulties. Early identification and appropriate interventions are key!
At Neurodiversity Foundation we often use the term “Autism Plus”, to describe the reality that neurodevelopment problems usually co-exist. While Autism is a core focus of our work, related neuro-developmental conditions are always considered too. There is typically much overlap among conditions such as Autism, ADHD, Developmental Coordination Disorder, Learning Disabilities, Dyslexia, Tic Disorder and several others. We promote awareness of this overlap in order for children to access the most appropriate support.
